Youth dependency rates are increasing since 2011 in all parts of the Nordic Region, with the exception of remote rural areas. In 2015, the highest youth dependency rates are found in medium sized-cities, often located close to larger urban areas (e.g. Liminka and Ii in Finland, Rennesøy in Norway, Knivsta and Vaxholm in Sweden). The lowest rates are found in more sparsely populated areas as in northern Sweden (Norrbotten) and eastern Finland (Lappi, Kainuu, Pohjois-Karjala and Etelä-Savo).
