This map shows demographic vulnerability in Nordic-Baltic municipalities based on the indicator crude birth rate. Under this indicator, municipalities are deemed to be vulnerable when the crude birth rate is lower than 11.1 percent. The majority of municipalities in Nordic and Baltic countries have a crude birth rate below this threshold 11. At the same time, higher crude birth rates can also be observed, mainly in the capital areas, middle-western Finland, southern Sweden, south-western Norway and several costal municipalities in Norway.
Crude birth rate is one of 10 indicators used to measure demographic vulnerability in the Nordic-Baltic Region. The map “Nordic-Baltic Demographic Vulnerabilities”, takes in all 10 indicators to provide an overall picture of demographic vulnerabilities at the municipal level.
