From a Nordic point of view the larger city regions are better able to attract younger population and thus nativity is also higher in these city region types while in medium-sized towns and rural areas population decline is occurring due to the existence of both low birth rates and an increasingly elderly population. In the Westnordic region however also a remarkable number of small rural municipalities hae positive natural change due to overall younger age structure
