At the Nordic and on EU level the number of females and males is almost the same. When looking at the gender balance on regional level a clear urban - rural divide can be identified. City regions tend to be more attractive for females whereas many rural and sparsely populated regions are dominated by males. The same pattern can be identified in Russia although the overall lower share of males does not make the picture as clear.
