The increase in number of clusters used to classify municipalities (into rural or urban) provides a much more nuanced image of the cluster characteristics, and enables the inclusion of several components in the analysis. The clusters go from red and yellow (more rural) to blue and purple (more urban). Urban centres are easily identifiable but, in relation to rural areas, a marked difference between the Nordic countries appears: Denmark and Sweden in one group (class 2), while Finland and parts of Norway in the rural class 4. The differences are connected to different gender structures, as well as with basic demographic parameters.
