Age-dependency ratios are a measure of the age structure of the population. They relate the number of "dependent" individuals – youths and the elderly – to the number of those individuals who are capable of providing such support. In general, the highest dependency rates can be found in some municipalities in Eastern Finland and in Swedish Torne Valley. The lowest rates can be found in regional centres and West Norden.
